Notes from the Road Issue 003

Welcome to Notes From the Road—an inside look at desert happenings, things we’re currently into, and anything/everything in between brought to you by one of our owners and founders, Janelle. We don’t gatekeep here in the high desert so if we love it, you need to know about it.

Dime Store Radio

I’ve been a long-time fan of Dime Store Radio on Instagram—I love their video clips of early and obscure country music performances. Recently, we started listening to their Soundcloud Playlists in the store. The live recordings and rare early country and folk tracks set a fun mood in the shop.

Date Shakes

This month, we took a road trip down to southern Arizona for The Prowl, an annual motorcycle show in Bisbee. On the way, just past the Salton Sea, I stopped at a gem of a roadside market in Westmorland, California, simply called Westmorland Date Shakes. They sell everything date-related, including incredible Date Shakes. I tried the vegan option, made with almond milk, ice, and dates, and I highly recommend it!

Our First Anniversary

March marks our 1-year anniversary at the Desert Market. With everything going on in the world and small businesses closing left and right, we’re proud to have made it through our first year! We had a great party at the shop, with friends joining us to celebrate.

Boxy Tees on Desert Friends

We launched a little series this month featuring local desert creatives wearing our Boxy Tees. Last fall, while visiting artist friends' studios during the Hwy 62 Art Tours, I thought—I'd love to see some of these artists in our new Boxy T-shirts. We finally found time to fit in a shoot with another talented desert creative, photographer Brandon Harmon.

Check out the Journal, and take a look at our new Boxy Tees! We're already planning a new color for fall, and I’d love your feedback—I’m thinking Rust. What do you think?
