There’s nothing we love more than supporting other small businesses, especially during the busy holiday season. There’s so much value in supporting the local shops that help your community thrive and keep it authentically unique. So in the spirit of shopping small, here are just a few (of the many!) local places where we like to eat and shop around the high and low desert.
White Label Vinyl / @whitelabelvinyl
Twentynine Palms
White Label Vinyl is a great record store out in Twentynine Palms. They’ve got a good selection, but what we get really excited about are the in-store shows and record-release events that they hold in their backyard. Anyone can find a tune they’re into at White Label!
Campbell Hill Bakery / @campbellhillbakery
Twentynine Palms
This tiny bakery only allows one customer group inside at a time to place their order. You get total attention from the staff when trying to make the difficult decision of what delicious fresh baked goods to get. Our favorites are their hummus sandwich, which is huge and filling, and their banana chocolate cupcakes is one of the best cake combos we have ever had. If you just want to pop in for a loaf of bread, you can’t go wrong!
Gabino’s Creperie / @gabinoscreperie
Palm Springs
When we go down to Palm Springs to restock our shop at Mojave Flea, a crepe from Gabino’s gets us through. Your first impression might be, ‘a crepe is not going to satisfy my hunger after waking up early, driving 40 minutes, and standing on a 10-foot ladder remerchandising a shop.’ Don’t be misled! Gabino’s make the hoagies of crepes. They are huge, filling, and full of so many delicious flavors. The chicken pesto crepe and the buffalo chicken ranch crepe are our faves.
Corner62 / @shopcorner62
Twentynine Palms
Corner62 is a “shopping oasis” made up of multiple independent shops, like its own mini-mall. A great one-stop shop to get gifts, household items, art, and periodicals. There’s even a yoga studio! Grab a cold beverage or wine from Scorpion Lollipop, a magazine from Hi Desert Times Magazine, and spend some time chilling out in the courtyard.
Hermano Flower Shop / @hermanoflowershop
Palm Springs
Our friend Adrian runs his tiny flower shop and studio out of Mojave Flea in Palm Springs. A mix of streetwear, music, and flowers, Adrian’s optimistic and romantic outlook on life inspires us. We use Hermano Flowers in our photoshoots and love buying his bouquets to brighten up our, or someone’s, day. We also love his graphic tees and accessories—all designed by Adrian himself.
The Station / @thestationjoshuatree
Joshua Tree
Our homies at The Station don’t need any introduction. If you come to Joshua Tree, no doubt you have seen “Big Josh,” their huge mascot out front. The station is a former gas station and our pals Glen and Steve transformed it into the perfect desert gift shop that feels like a ‘70s head shop, complete with dirty mags. We love their wide variety of t-shirts and hats that have cheeky designs. Chances are you’ll find something for yourself AND your hard-to-shop-for friends back home. The Station has everything you don’t need.
