It’s no secret we’re obsessed with the new Boxy Circle Tee. Designed with your feedback in mind, it’s the tee you can love and wear with anything. We tapped some of our favorite creatives in the high desert to see how they’re styling theirs—starting with woodworker Aleksandra Zee.
She’s called the high desert home for almost two years now, but her love for it here goes way back. “Living here is a dream come true for me,” she says. “To find our dream home with the most incredible studio for myself and one for my husband really felt like fate.”
Aleksandra’s been working with wood for 14 years, but she didn’t set out to be a woodworker. Her first real experience with it was at Anthropologie, where she worked as a display artist creating room-filling installations, fixtures, and signs. “Every project we did that revolved around wood was always my favorite,” she says. “I knew I needed to find a way to create a life for myself that revolved around woodworking.” With the help of her now-best friend and mentor Katie Gong, Aleksandra honed her skills and never looked back.
Now, in the desert, her work has taken a new shape—literally. “Moving to the desert has completely changed my work,” she says. “Getting the chance to slow down and study allowed me to create an entirely new body of work, which for me, is my favorite thing I have ever created.” Her sculptural pieces are all about light and shadow, a direct reflection of the way the desert sun shifts throughout the day. “In the summer, the sun is intense, the days are long and slow, and the nights are blissfully warm. You chase shadows during the day. In the winter, you worship the sun because it’s only up for a brief time.”
Right now, she’s in the middle of a creative deep dive, working on a new sculptural collection as an expansion of her Let the Light In series. “I just want to continue to dig in and create and let the work guide where it goes,” she says. “Being in a space of inspiration is truly a cherish able time, I just want to enjoy the ride of it.”
Later this year, she’ll be part of Art Tours in October, but for now, she’s soaking up the creative process. We can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
